Senior Counsel for Litigation and Employment Law

The Rentokil team in Wyomissing, PA is seeking a “Senior Counsel for Litigation and Employment Law” to join its corporate law group. The ideal person will provide full range of litigation support and employment law counseling and compliance.  A specific background in employment law and litigation is required, as approximately fifty percent of the work will center on that substantive area.  However, either an additional background in general litigation, or a willingness to extend employment litigation experience into other litigated subjects is also required.  Specific accountabilities for this position will consist of management of litigation across all businesses and types of claims including selection of counsel, preparation of discovery material and witnesses, personal attendance at key events and developing litigation strategy with external advisors.  The role will also provide direct counseling support to the Human Resources and Operations teams around all events in the employment relationship including wage and hour compliance, equal employment opportunity, and non-competition and confidentiality protections.  The Senior Counsel will finally support and assist the General Counsel on providing coverage for other department functions, preparation of internal reporting and communication, and participation in cross-departmental project teams.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Select, manage and coordinate company assistance with external counsel.
  • Provide regular reporting on the status of all litigated matters, including developing and reporting on key benchmarks and financial metrics.
  • Review of all legal documents, pleadings, correspondence to court and case parties. This will include the determination of when such filings are necessary and direction of local counsel to maintain overall case strategy.
  • Attend key events in the course of litigation, including material depositions, mediation, settlement conferences and trials.
  • Establish personal working relationships with all key Human Resources personnel and provide counsel on a regular basis.
  • Determine when revisions to company policy and procedures are necessary in the employment context, and work with HR resources to revise and review as necessary all such formal and informal documents and processes.
  • Serve as the company’s primary expert on changes and developments in employment law both nationally and locally.
  • Perform due diligence review of acquisition targets in area of employment law compliance, and work with internal teams around integration challenges presented.
  • Provide availability to assist on other corporate legal issues as maybe assigned from time to time by General Counsel, and in alignment with career development interests.
  • Work on cross-function and cross-department teams to advance the company’s integration and compliance efforts across all acquired businesses.
Experience Requirements:
 
  • At least five years of substantive experience in employment law counseling of human resources and similar corporate clients, either in a law firm or corporate environment or combination of same.
  • Direct litigation experience in areas of employment law, including harassment and discrimination complaints, wage and hour disputes and enforcement of restrictive covenants.
  • Exposure and participation in other areas of litigated disputes, or a strong desire to extend employment litigation experience into other substantive areas.
  • Strong legal drafting, program management and team organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and in a self-directed manner, to drive meaningful impact and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and superior reading comprehension.
  • A four-year degree and a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
 
 
Some travel (approximately 10-20%) will be required across the United States and Canada, with occasional travel to other global locations including the United Kingdom.
 
This position is available for flexible hours and flexible work location, including work from home.
